It isn't until you get to Rainbow that they're all the same sonically, save Glitter. Sure there's clear differences that make each unique but Rainbow/Charmbracelet/Emancipation/E=MC2/Memoirs are all in the same vein, socially and visually. She found her comfort zone.

No dear, finding your comfort zone is not the way to describe it. I personally feel that, artistically Mimi was finding her style or should I say signature sound that makes you stand out amongst other artist, and I would say she achieved that pretty well. She's pretty much one of the standards for big ballad singers and modern R&B songstresses.
Just because she went from doing straight up AC and stepped into the Urban world does not make her complacent,or having a "
comfort zone". That was her evolving musically.Along with the fact of you saying every 00's albums(
sans Glitter) is a rehash of RB,because there is nothing even remotely close that you could compare Rainbow to,and then put in the same category sonically as say... TEOM.
From production,to vocals and even lyricism. As many of us know,Rainbow was a very rushed production,so some of it sounds incomplete in places, also some of music on it was very immature lyrically and very 90's R&B/Bubble-gum Pop :ala
X-Girlfriend and How much
TEOM was a much more heavy album ,production wise that is.and she had more time to put more thought and creativity into it. Vocally they were in two different places. Mimi's voice was more raspy and dry sounding in certain places on Rainbow, but the TEOM vocals were more clear and consistent song from song. Lyrically ,lets be real Maria'sh main course is Love,it's been that way since her first album(
She's a Balladeer),but within each album she has a different story or experience to give from ones perspective.
and that is just
ONE comparison.
I
NEED you to be more specific, and define what you mean as "sonically" sounding the same sis.
Because our hearing doesn't match up.
