Beyoncé needed a gimmick and a years worth of hype in order to sell the amount that Rihanna does. 4 only sold as much as she did through more gimmicks and nearly two years of promotion and the bulk of her sales came from the US.
And the idea that Rihanna needs hits to sell albums is stupid. Both of her last albums only had ONLY TWO proper hits from them. Just because the GP buy her singles doesn't mean that she needs them to sell albums. They've shown to hold up better than BEYONCE. She barely promoted her albums after the first single. People just like Rihanna albums! And her singles for that matter. She's only had 0.5 hits this era and she's released 5 songs so far.
