Oh sorry, I missread it.
Nope, in my opinion its not a good music video. As I said - funny, innovative - yes.
If she released a DH type of video, it would be doing much better. Before seeing the official video, I already imagined her showing ha boobs during the "Big baloons" line

People put way too much weight on a music video. I can guarantee you that not everyone who hears a song will check out the music video. And I can guarantee you that not everybody that likes a song and sees a bad music video will stop liking the song just because of its music video. That's just stupid. You don't see the music video every time the song comes on the radio, or plays on your phone. The song is not doing well because of Dark Horse getting too much attention still, and the song isn't connecting with people as well as hoped. It has very little to do with the video. The song wasn't smashing before the video and then dropped, if anything, the song did increase after the video. People blaming the video for the song's lack of success are just looking for something to blame and that's an easy target because it's not your traditional music video, nor one you would expect for the song.
But regardless of that I love the video and I'm glad that she did something different.

Uhm... but Katy smashed two songs at the same time many times before. During all Teenage Dream era basically, no wonder she has that record of 69 consecutives weeks at Billboard Hot 100 Top 10.
I think if the song is supposed to smash, it will, no matter what the music video is (see Dark Horse). But, a song CAN smash only because of the music video. And Birthday is not neither of these examples.
In my opinion, Last Friday Night only went 3x platinum and reached #1 because of it's music video that went viral. But like I said before, Katy can afford Birthday or another song flopping.

This is not the Teenage Dream era and Dark Horse is unlike any other single she had before... it's definitely going to be her biggest hit with the most longevity. Let's not act like DH is comparable to anything in the Teenage Dream era. The closest thing is E.T., and as you said, the single that followed that was assisted by a viral video. Birthday was never meant to go viral like people claim. Katy said herself that it may even ruin her career. Why would she release the video knowing that it could potentially ruin her career? Because she didn't release it for the success, she released it before she wanted to show a different side of herself, change the opinion of her just when people were getting comfortable, etc. she said this many times during interviews. Birthday MV wasn't made for the masses, it was the complete opposite of being made for the masses.
But yes, Katy can afford a song to flop, that's not really the problem. It's that it's sad that it's a catchy song like Birthday that's flopping when it really doesn't need to. It's not like it's not radio friendly or anything, it's not even a ballad. It'll be her first upbeat song to not go #1 since Waking Up In Vegas.

That's ok! Look on the bright side. We were so used to see a Katy single flying to the number 1 spot that when it didn't reach #1 or Top 10, we called it a flop.
Remember when California Gurls was released and everybody was scared Katy would flop so hard? Or even before Teenage Dream. We had that strange yet good feeling to not known what was gonna happen. It's way cooler than to expect a song just to fly up the charts, and be dissapointed when it doesn't. It's good to keep Katy's feet on the ground as well. She won't get it right everytime, nobody does.
Anyway!

Let's be real... why are you even in here?
Birthday DOES show a different side of her. It's not as glossy and sexual, more rough around the edges and she was... t trying to be funny.

I don't even care if the song goes #1 tbh, I'm not a fan of Katy because she's successful. But the song isn't even going to be considered a hit, that's the point. It's not a case of "oh you Kats, you're so spoiled" like some people are making it out to be. It's genuinely not doing well at this stage, and by that I don't mean for Katy's standards, I mean for anyone's standards. I know artists flop every now and then and that needs to be expected, but it's just a shame to see it happen to a track like Birthday. That's all I'm saying.
But I still have faith that it may rebound, or at the very least, Capitol will send the Cash Cash remix and that will help the song a lot, too.

This thread is not restricted to Kats only. I enjoy listening to Birthday so I came here to discuss its performance.

I don't understand why this is flopping. It's my favorite song off “Prism.“
I was 100% sure this would take off in an instant because it just suits this time of the year. Part of me believes “Dark Horse“ is responsible for what we're seeing now but it can't be just that. This song had so much potential and the fact it's getting 3m+ updates daily while lagging so poorly on Itunes is a clear indication that something's just not quite right.

Not y'all arguing about Birthday not rocketing up iTunes. She hasn't performed the song anywhere and Dark Horse is still #3 on overall radio airplay. Birthday will catch on as Dark Horse dies down.

Yep. It's sad.
I decided just to ignore it and let the mods handle it.
Anyway, Birthday is NOT an important single. Legendary Lovers will smash regardless of Birthday's floppage

Why ya'll keep saying Birthday is flopping?
Its doing fine. It will climb up the BB Hot 100 in the coming weeks.
But as far as the iTunes chart is concerned.....
But Legendary Lovers is coming for that 20 weeks @ #1 spot.
DH's weave is not safe.
