You forget they get paid on whole sale, not retail. An artist gets paid 22% on an album at wholesale. $14.99 retail - is $7.99 is wholesale. Taylor get's paid $1.64 for each album sold. The record label get's their cut with Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc. getting the bulk of sales.
They say an artist receives $.08 on a single (less than a dime), the record label, producers, I tunes get the bulk of sales.
It's always noted Musicians become rich from touring, not album sales. I remember TLC saying that they sold 10 mil copies of Crazy Sexy Cool. But each of them made only $750k, after they paid back the record label for distribution, music videos, studio time, producers, writers.
Taylor was the highest paid artist in the US almost $40, but 30 mil came from touring the rest came from streaming and albums sold in 2013.
I encourage the haters to view her videos on YOUtube, they don't know they are adding more money in Taylor's pocket. Vevo Certified 100 mil is platinum to an artist.
