And just because Lupita is wearing her hair natural doesn't give you or anyone the right to chastise black women who don't

There's nothing groundbreaking about Beyoncé. She wears a blonde weave 24/7 and looks white in 80% of her pics nowadays. I think her image is so damaging to little black girls across the nation. No I don't think she wants to be white. She acknowledges being black, has a black husband/child etc. but she's definitely a conformist.
Lupita is the one charting new territory.

Lupita YES, but Beyonce slightly, let's remember Beyonce is a fair skinned MIXED black woman, with long flowing hair, she fits the "status quo" more when it comes to whats beautiful. European standards of beauty dominate most of the world and Beyonce in a sense fits them, Lupita on the other hand is quite the opposite, so to see the way shes being received is just amazing But congrats to both queens

Exactly. And I was hoping I would see a response like this on the first page.

To a certain degree, yes. But, how often do we see black women of Lupita's skin tone achieve such a great deal of commercial success? it's very rare.

While all this is true, she is still a black woman. If a racist person went on a rampage trying to kill black people, they would be gunning for Beyoncé. Her European features wouldn't keep her from harm.

And, I really need y'all to quit with this "well, she's light skinned, she doesn't change much."
Light skin does not give you the privilege of a white person. Light skin or dark skin, you are still BLACK and that's the moral of the story. Stop trying to make it seem as if because someone isn't dark complected, that their achievements and goals don't mean a damn thing. If y'all don't stop with that ****.

Lupita gets an Oscar & a magazine cover & y'all act like she freed the slaves! She's not the first person to wear their hair natural, just as Beyonce isn't the first to wear a weave. Lupita's beautiful yes & I'm glad she's getting acknowledge for her beauty, but you guys don't need to knock Beyonce down to build Lupita up. They both show that there is not one particular look for black women. The point is there is more than one standard of beauty rather than comparing which standard is better. Saying Beyonce wants to look white because she dyes her hair, but won't mention these girls who get butt & lip injections to get black features. I guess Pretty Hurts because at the end of the day both are beautiful, but you guys focus on imperfection.
They're both good representations because I see way more women with weaves than with a buzz cut. The fact that a black woman has become the sex symbol of her generation is impressive regardless if she is light skinned because she's paving the way for black beauty to be accepted by the masses.

nnnnnnn. How is she annoying? If you actually watch her interviews, she is very humble and sweet. She is not the person who looks for attention. It's not her fault for getting all this attention. Stop.

Lupita was born in Mexico & went to Yale University, you definitely just made up that sob story about her being poor because she's from Africa, when in actually she probably came from a family that did well

Don't really knowww. Whenever I see her HUGE, giant smile on the red carpet I just feel irritated. Respect my opinion.
