the thing is that she is reducing Japanese culture to food, fun and fashion and that there is nothing else to Japan other than that. she also uses her background dancers as ‘accessories’ to make the video look ‘cute’ and ‘kawaii’. She SHOULD be able to express her love for food/fashion/fun but should do it in a way that is not offensive, or reduces people of other culture to cute objects that are fun to look at, and she should not make videos on cultures that she doesnt belong to/identify with. i don’t think its comparable to telling a girl who wears girly clothes that she isn’t a feminist, as feminism is about being able to express yourself through your style & accepting pther women regardless if their style is stereotypical or not, because one does not really have to do with the other. regardless of your style, if its punk or girly it is acceptable to express yourself that way if you belong to a culture that expresses themselves that way. whereas appropriating a culture that you are not a part of and have no experience with, is extremely offensive, especially since white people (especially hollywood celebs) are not prejudiced against and can express themselves however the hell they want without being discriminated. you can argue considerably about this topic but i dont think the reaction to ‘Hello Kitty’ is exaggerating, we just need to educate people on things like this.
Male privilege is not having your career choice questioned. Growing up, I wanted to pursue Palaeontology, have a career in the armed forces or be a formula 1 racer, and I was constantly told they weren’t things ‘girls should do.’. With Palaeontology in particular, I was constantly questioned on why I’d want to dig up bones and get dirty and sweaty because they weren’t things ‘becoming of a woman.’
I can't believe people actually like the Birthday video and the song like the **** is wrong with you. Thank the lord I stan for someone who actually has talent unlike that *** guzzling hobag known as katy. She probably sucked a mad amount of dick to get the first record deal. Luckily they dropped her ass as soon as they realized at the time she was unmarketable. Unfortunately for all of our eardrums Capitol quickly realized they could take advantage of her and make her their pop star and now every five seconds we are subject to the same awful pop songs on the radio thanks to her. I pray to the good lord that she goes through an artistic revolution, because it's just going to be embarrassing if she's still making ****** pop music at 50 like madonna. I also love the remix argument when it comes to Katy. She made a flop ass remix of Last Friday Night with Missy Elliot so she could get that number one, and she also made two remixes for The One That Got Away, a decent acoustic version, and a ****** ass remix with that flop rapper B.o.B. People on ATRL always seem to forget that. Anyway i'm going to end this rant. I am and will be waiting for the day when decent music returns to us all instead of the aural ******** known as PRISM. So ****ing dark katy. So ****ing dark. Stupid ******* twatbag. Also no wonder John Mayer cheated on her ass. He probably couldn't comprehend how someone could make such awful music.
