The constant shade it gets from music publications and critics is pretty tiring. It's a fantastic album and still ten years later gets misunderstood and attacked mostly because of its title track. Drag the single all you want but don't come near Easy Ride, Nothing Fails, Love Profusion, Nobody Knows Me, X-Static Process or Mother & Father.

if you notice, it's only the UK and US that critique it and it has nothing to do with the album, but everything about the first single: american life. everyone who took a stand against Bush was seen as "anti america" back in the day. big publications just repeat what others say. but Ive said this many times: more alternative outlets actually praised the album. I know one even said it's her best album and that "nothing fails" is better than "like a prayer" because it's more honest and real.

And "American Life" the single spoke only truth and if you're overly patriotic self got offended than you're just gonna have to toughen up or stay pressed and miniscule compared to the legend and icon that is the billionaire, singer-songwriter, actress, and businesswoman Madonna Louise Ciccone.
