RCA Records sources say that they always believed that "Thing" could be the album's biggest hit but wanted to release "Take" and "TKO" first since they better represent the album's R&B lean. The label also wanted to space out "Thing" and the fellow pure-pop "Mirrors," which reached No. 2 last June.
