First week sales show your popularity. They show how wanted your album is; how much the demand is. The people willing to buy an artists album first week are people who are genuinely interested in the artist to the point they buy their album the week it comes out.
Yes Longevity is important, but an artist's first week is a good inclination on how popular the artist is.
Beyoncé wins both anyway.
