It's not even that, people just don't have to rely on pop girls for good pop music if they're not interested in them personally. Had tumblr been around in 2007 Gimme More would've slayed the charts because people would be so invested in her meltdown, reblogging all the umbrella pics, etc. Now more than ever, catchy music is NOT good enough. You need to bring a few more things to the table and post-2008/Circus Britney just ain't doing it
