I do think Gaga fans used to think they're above basic music, but they have their reasons in 2011. Most Lana fans are former Gaga fans because she gives them greater incentives to be more "artistic" like.

They still DO! Most Monsters still think ARTPOP is the most revolutionary album of its time (and her personal best, when in reality it's her most lacking)

Katy already outlasted Avril. Avril had a sucessful debut and follow-up, but the third album was already announcing the mess that would come.
Now, they do have some common points, like the immature songs. Let's hope Katy releases her Emancipation of KatyCats as 4th era.

The problem isn't the producers she works with. DJ White Shadow did a good job, and Zedd/Madeon have excellent bodies of work (they just gave her their worst representations).

And she didnt stop there, she has multiple albums that sold over 6 million copies.

No, Katy is not bigger than Avril was.

She needs about 3 more Teenage Dream size eras.

TBDT was messy as hell but Avril probably could have kept going if she didn't take a four year break.

I can't really support career moves like that though. That's just...dumb.
