I don't think gagas old material was very dissimilar, even her very electronic songs are very vocal, the style is the same. And she had plenty of dance pop demos. Not to mention she always felt the need to include that one terrible "emotional" raw ballad in each album
Branching out to other genres isn't really a crime either. This fight about who's more "authentic" or had a "more natural transition" is pointless.
Poor Lana when she disappears without ever having an impact. Everyone knows she is standing in Adele's giant shadow, and it's not like she's Lorde and can go up from here. Lana is nothing. Not concerned.

Not very praised =/= dragged. Two major movies wouldn't ask a joke to sing their soundtracks. Her live performances since then have been praised. It doesn't matter.
