These mod choices were supposed to be so obviously ridiculous, that it HAD to be a joke. That is mocking them.
People got their hopes up. People also were humiliated when people dragged them for being a candidate.
And I really like you as a mod Retro, sorry if it sounds like in attacking you, but this just wasn't funny at all to me, and lots of other members.
Anyone who knows this site well enough knows that those members would probably NEVER be mods, and those members themselves know it. It would've been cruel if they said "Kitt and Porygon and going to be mods!" [who people have been rooting for for ages] and then said it was a joke. They're a bunch of known trolls or just very messy members (or in umich's case, someone who is usually put-together but had one major slip-up 
), it would've been mean to "pick" the more serious nominees
