It's a genre of music that encompasses most traditional styles of music. This is what we would call music that you would probably hear in your home country, but of course you wouldn't call it that.
Many people will say it sounds "tribal" or "african", or even like "folk" music. But it's the common sound that is appreciated by people all over the world.
You can play it in Brazil, you can play it in Africa, you can play it in Indonesia. And people would still get it.
Shakira would probably be the closest thing in mainstream pop that delivers this regularly.
