the content isn't that different though? at east no thematically? it's about dealing with issues and struggle of everyday life. certain demographics might relate more to certain genres, but it's not a huge difference. sex, heartbreak, and family are common themes in both genres.
i think contemporary country music can be very different than contemporary r&b. but older country music is very reminiscent of r&b, especially considering that country and r&b both evolved from blues music. r&b was made from a mix of mexican instruments (mostly guitars) as they began to pop up in the south, african beats and counting structures, and new "american" music. country is based on the same things with european instruments added in. since poor white and black people were living in the same areas, the music is very, very similar.
