It's actually perfectly in her range.
The only reason she messed it up on the X Factor was nerves.
See her acoustic performances of it, they are great and she's on pitch the whole time.

I stand behind that Carrie fact btw because that's all she is, has been and will ever be. See You Again is the only good song on Blown Simon anyway.

The main problem with her is the types of songs she sings and her anxiety. She's a lyric-soprano, her voice was not made to belt, belt, belt, all the time.

Her tone kinda sucks when she's trying to sing acoustic though. She can sing on-key sometimes, and with decent conviction, but her voice is never pretty.

The performance at the MuchMusicVideo awards was good. The problem with that song is the vowel changes. "Nine" is a horrible word to try and belt because it can completely cut off your airway. That's why she usually just says nine then transitions to an open vowel.
Katy isn't a great vocalist, yet her songs are built as if they were to be sung by someone with more skill.
