Yeah. Let's not pretend that Adele has the best voice in the world or something. She's above average. However, she does make things up with her emotion that she channels through her music. She does have a great and unique tone of voice!
Adele's popularity is more based on her killer singles: RITD, SLY and SFTTR, which are among the best songs of this century.

Adele's voice isn't supposed to be about 10 second vocal runs or trying to hit the highest notes (which most people find annoying after awhile). Adele didn't study Whitney or Mariah's voice, she studied artists like Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, etc, which is a completely different style of singing (and typically more preferred).
Her voice is actually harder to imitate then voices like Whitney, Mariah, etc because it relies on tone and emotional quality and those aren't things you can just imitate. It's not that difficult to train your voice to do vocal runs. That's why when people cover Adele songs, they sound good technically but completely lack the things that makes her voice so good and unique.
In my opinion, Adele does have one of the best voices and the public definitely thinks of her as one of the best voices out right now.
