I was right when I thought Cali Gurls would be the summer hit of its year, I was right when I thought ET would be the biggest TD hit in the US, I was right about DH slaying... something tells me I'm right about this one, too.

Guys I asked about the deluxe tracks and well, they will never be singles. They consider there are enough options on the standard album
Katy herself chose the singles with the label (you know which if you've been following my posts ) at the beginning of this year because she knew she was going to be busy due to rehearsals. (Don't quote me )

I wanted ITT, oh well, I never really thought any of the deluxe tracks would be released. Oh, and I love that Katy's so in control of her career and involved

Would you expect a very sexy video to go along with this song when Katy (as a child) is on it (ie a I Kissed A Girl type video)
A good middle ground like LFN is what I'm hoping

Why aren't deluxe tracks ever released? The only one I know of is Super Bass. ITT and CYB would SLAY!!!

And is still selling.

ET was Billboard certified as her biggest hit 'til Roar tho, poor Firework.

Birthday is a strong contender for another big hit on Rhythmic, which would boost its exposure and chart run. Maybe not as big as DH or ET on that format, but bigger than Roar. The old school R&B sound is big now. And when Happy dies down, this will fill the void.

Well Katy did say "I'm ready to bring out my big balloons.🎈🎈." She also tweeted "In honor of #TBT may I present the cover of my NEXXXT single, 🎂🎈BIRTHDAY" and three XXX's could very well be a reference to hardcore ****. Plus as I said before, she might've purposely chosen the kiddie artwork to juxtapose with a sexy music video. Then again, I could just be over analyzing things and indulging in some wishful thinking

I agree with your hunch. Katy loves to mix it up and surprise us. Camp video for DH? Who would've thought?

Actually, Dark Horse Is going to be Katy`s biggest Hit in the US (according to Billboard)
The fact that It spent half the time Roar did and could stay 40+ weeks in the chart is just astonishing.
1.Dark Horse
2.Roar
3.E.T.
4.Firework
and they said Teenage Deity was her peak

I would have never considered it to be Old School R&B, but definitely a bit Old School Pop-like sounds

Birthday is flawless, as are up coming singles 5 and 6; Legendary Lovers and Double Rainbow.

She said she was going for old school Mariah, which I think she succeeded at. The final product reminds me of early 90's R&B, like "Someday" (production-wise) by Mariah, while the vocals remind me more of late 90's Mariah (ie. Heartbreaker, Honey)

Ask Billboard: What Hits Have Out-Charted The Songs They Sample?
Quote:
In the meantime, "Birthday" already looks headed for fast start on the Pop Songs airplay chart, where it could debut as soon as Monday, when the new list is released. At the latest, the song should bow by the following week, and that's all before Capitol has begun any formal promotion of the song to radio.
