If a song is released in one country, and is a hit in that country, why would you expect it to go overseas and dominate everywhere without a release?
BEYONCÉ smashed in the UK, Australia, Netherlands and other countries. Just cause it flopped in Japan doesn't mean it flopped everywhere else.

It's barely platinum in the UK and Australia.
It "smashed" only in the US, though even there it did worse than recent albums like Red and 20/20 Part 1.
Outside of the opening weekend the project was a failure.
