Perhaps I don't listen to R&B a lot since it's not really my kind of music, but i'm aware of the genre, its artists, etc because I love music in general. That's doesn't happen much the other way around.

Um no What? There are PLENTY of non-black icons that black people are aware of and instantly recognize. Madonna, Elvis, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, etc. Perhaps because those people were actually so iconic that their impact transcended outside of their demographic. Just like the iconic black artists Michael, Whitney, Prince etc transcended theirs. You sound a mess.
