The 800s part of the iTunes chart is very fickle, she's probably selling between 800 - 1000 or even less, besides the effect of the single cover is not that strong to make it climb to the top 500, we should wait till radio adds and lyric video to really freak out.

This is the first single of the era that is climbing the normal way, cuz "Unconditionally" and "Dark Horse" were both Top 100 when they were released as singles. So, we need to have patience.

Walking On Air needs to be the next single and perform it on the VMA. That song is her best live.

Because choosing your next single includes a lot of factors like marketing, promoting and what's the general public into at the moment. Not personal preferences.

Also I think Birthday was planned to be the third single from the beginning (Katy said right after Unconditionally that "the next single will be sexy"), but it was Dark Horsed. Now they're moving on with the original schedule.

Katy seems to love Birthday. I think she'll do everything to deliver another iconic video. Her favourite tracks always have the best music videos.

Birthday was the rumored 3rd but mula negra was a surprise hit so they pushed this back
