Heavy Metal Lover was confirmed by NRJ when they got the go ahead from Interscope (Universal I think was the French label).

A few weeks later the single was put up for pre-order with no cover art (the cover art was a customer image). Amazon don't have permission to put a single up for pre-order, so it had to have been Interscope.

Amazon are only allowed to list the the song separately, like they did before Beautiful, Dirty, Rich was cancelled as second single:

I think it all adds up, especially since she was planning 4 more singles.

To add more to the male side, I know Twisted by Usher featuring Pharrell was suppose to be a single from the Looking 4 Myself era after the "Pharrell boom" with Blurred Lines/Get Lucky (he performed it on The Voice for promo back in June 2013), but I think it was cancelled after lack of reception from the general public.




I'll continue searching, and try to think of more cancelled single from male pop artists

Beautiful, Dirty, Rich was always second single and then because Just Dance finally blew up they went with Poker Face. But BDR had a digital single, was listed as a single on Gaga's website and had a music video filmed.

They quickly changed it to Poker Face last minute. It's why the original Poker Face cover uses photos from the BDR video set.



& then they changed the cover when they filmed Poker Face's video.

Ariana Grande's "Pink Champagne" and "Do You Love Me" (feat. Sky Blu) were supposed to be released as singles from "Daydreamin'" but when PYHU tanked, Universal Republic scrapped her pop sound for R&B.

Demi Lovato's "Don't Forget" was supposed to be released as a single, but it wasn't released properly. Ironically, it outperformed both "Get Back" and "La La Land".

Lorde's "Tennis Court" was scrapped in favor of "Glory and Gore".

The pop release of Imagine Dragons' "On Top of the World" appears to be cancelled (if there was even one planned).

Victoria Justice was pushing for "Shake" as her first single but Columbia Records released "Gold" instead. (Although Victoria wasn't a big fan of the sound of both songs as she wanted an electropop sound.)
