I agree that pop stars genuinely aren't respected, but artists are. And I honestly think that's where the line is drawn between Katy and Gaga - one is a pop star, and the other is an artist.

I and many others see Katy as an artist. I'm sure Gaga sees Katy as an artist too.

I didn't say art schtick. I said artist. She writes her own music, plays her own instruments, guides her own visions. That's what a musical artist is.

Katy has her songs mostly written for and her era planned out in advance by other people. She's not in control of her career, while Gaga has fought hard to be in complete control of what she does, even if that means less sales.

This is stupid considering not only has Katy written songs on her own - she's also produced them! Katy too plays instruments, and how do you know Katy doesn't control her own career? She's literally the only thing Capitol has going for them, she basically has them eating out of her palm.

Katy would say that because she is more humble. Please don't diminish Katy who struggled for a decade to get to where she is. I highly doubt she is less in control of her career than Gaga. In fact all evidence points otherwise.

How old are you? I think it's easy when you haven't had any real adult experience to see the person screaming the loudest and equate them with the ones "fighting" for their art or what not.

Katy does it quietly with the grace of a woman. And her results show that she has the love and RESPECT of many.

Katy is very in control of her career. Everyone that works with her says so. The directors of her videos also credit her vision with the outcome. And her and Capitol work very closely to plan the eras (she actually went against them when they asked for OOTB 2.0 for her second album but made a more pop album).

Katy also writes the majority of her own songs and has more solo writing credits than Gaga. She also produces and can play instruments too.

What does my age have anything to do with this? I have an education in communications, public relations, journalism, and radio broadcasting, and I have plenty of knowledge of the music industry to know more than the average ATRLer.

But that has nothing to do with this conversation Stop trying to make this about something else.

Yes I stan hard for Gaga, and I know that she has fought hard to get to this point in her career, to have full creative control and do as she pleases, but I also know she does it because she truly wants to make work that matters, not that gets cheap sales and praise from 14 year olds. And I know Katy does make music for radio, does make music for teenagers to purchase. That's her core audience and she's perfectly fine with that. Gaga and Katy are perfectly happy with their careers. So why must we argue.
