What kinda lie ? Mariah was the Katy Perry of the 90s. So cheesy, so catchy. Besides Vision of Love, Emotion, & Anytime You Need a Friend, her first few albums were almost entirely AC pop. Like Celine type songs. Hero, Dreamlover, Love Takes Time ring a bell?
Please don't compare her to Mariah. Its better to have had vocal talent and be a hasbeen than have none at all.
A lot of Mariah's biggest hits were r&b lite but they were in the period that r&b pretty much was pop. That's like in 2024 saying "Lady Gaga's biggest songs were dance, not pop!".
Exactly.
"Creep", "This Is How We Do It", "I Like Big Butts", etc.
good looks attract douchbages which leads to unstable releatioships I'm glad my fave is ugly and in love , atleast she's not f***ing a ratchet infested musty sewer rat
he'll pass on all kinds of vicious STDs that will infect her, make her fat, make her warty and ugly and then ruin her career
DrownedWorld is pretty much correct. At least in the US, R&B was "pop." R&B/songs that crossed over to R&B in 1995 - for example - dominated the year-end's single sales chart.

How did I change sides? Those songs were heavy AC/pop songs that managed to crossover to urban, but Mariah has had much harder stuff that was UNDENIABLY R&B music. Still, R&B was pretty popular in the '90s (more popular than it was in the 2000s, tbh), so you can basically call most of the R&B songs that did well back then "pop." That's why pop is such a debatable topic.

Basically.
Mariah has a lot of r&b recordings but I wouldn't consider her total r&b a la Aretha Franklin, Mary J Blige, etc.
