It only "felt" big to the handful of adolescents who are into Vine and Tumblr and who are surrounded by like-minded people who meme their way through college. The song was only a minor hit, it sold a negligible amount, most people don't even know it.
There is clearly a great divide between her flop music and her successful business empire. Her songs flop so hard that people don't even notice them. Even BEYONCÉ itself was not sold as music, it was just a thing with her name on it that people knew nothing about. It was part of the empire, and it was a success. But once the music was revealed, and people rejected it because it was so bad, that was all Pepcé the artist.
Even in the GP's mind they are completely separate entities. That is how well her marketing has worked over the years. Her music can flop and flop and flop, it does not damage her name. The empire does not enhance the music, instead it makes people forget that the music exists.

That's a lie an you know it. Every interview Katy and gaga ever do is people asking them how do you feel about the rivalry and Gaga failing was even mentioned on entertainment television. I mean it's not forum homosexual thing like Austin Mahone or 5SOS. We are talking mainstream media coverage.

You're such a brilliant asshole.
This completely backs up Beyoncé's successful employment of artpop.

Hmm. Almost. I think we're saying variations of the same thing.
What I'm saying is that her celebrity makes her music sound better than it actually is. So in that way yes, it does enhance her musical legacy.

But you have to admit it was a brilliant marketing move. First Beyonce album I ever bought and I ended up listening to it a grand total of one time (with the exception of a couple songs).

The Film Stage @TheFilmStage 2m
The first trailer for David Fincher's 'Gone Girl' just premiered at @CinemaCon. Stay tuned for when it lands online.
Alex Billington @firstshowing 4m
Okay now we just saw Gone Girl footage and it was amazing. Fincher going Zodiac again with some Tattoo undertones. Looks like a contender.
Mystery Devin Faraci @devincf 4m
Not sure if this GONE GIRL trailer was new. Really interesting montage of seemingly unrelated sequences. Liked it.

Although, I think her constant recovery from flops has more to do with the fact that she's an experimental indie artist now. Even RnB fans see her in the same vein as Miguel, Kanye, and Frank Ocean. Critically acclaimed to the point where sales don't matter.
Now whether that's good or bad is another discussion.

Let's not pretend BEY's album isn't brilliant, though.

Kworb, you need to change your algorithm because I just can't take you srsly when Bey is still top 10 on your own website's artist rankings

Even as a brilliant marketing strategy made to hide the fact her music still very weak compared to singers who get the same acclaim she does, I feel like BEYONCÉ left them frustrated. I think her team expected people to go even crazier about this and the hype to be bigger. The fact is after a week after they announced the surprise, it's like it never happened, cause the songs aren't being played in my country. I guess it's more of a thing in the internet community like Kworb said. No impact at all.

He basically said she's an unstoppable entity. Not Kworb blurring the lines between drag and praise.
