I really don't think the notion that "if the music is good people will buy it" is true to life.
You can call it a necessary condition for success (in her case, at least, since obviously it isn't so for Katy w/ **** like Roar) but not really a sufficient one.
And unlike some peoples faves here, Shaki is not limited to the US. This summer the world will revolve around football while you local Americans seethe.
