This is why Columbia rejected the album so many times and why the release strategy is the only thing that kept this project from being a complete disaster. A normal era with XO as flop lead single would've made the album open with lower numbers than 4 (which did 511k worldwide). And with nothing to save the era, wow she would've been struggling to reach 1 million.

She might have saved the album sales and the Metacritic score with the stunt, but everything else was a Britney Jean type of tragic flop.

I don't understand the obsession with singles here. We all know Bey is now lackluster in that department. Bey's losing in that category and winning in virtually every other category, from acclaim, tours, and album sales.

Even with 4. If you're gonna flop, you best hope it has a fate similar to the grammy award winning, certified platinum 4 or else you end up with travesties like BJ, Warrior, SHAKIRA, ARTPOP, etc etc
