Just because they're radio friendly (which, might I add, is what Gaga said every song on ARTPOP was designed to be) doesn't mean they're like the songs on TD.

That's the idea though. She does really nothing to challenge convention and remains in a middling state of affairs. I'll agree with you on WOA, CYB and Spiritual though. Just because there are sonic/thematic disparities between TD and Prism doesn't mean that she's switched up her game entirely. Progressing would be Kanye going from maximalist baroque-inspired rap on MBDTF to the minimalist, abrasive sounds on Yeezus.

Katy Perry is a hitmaker and a genius at that. And she is quite creative. But it is undeaniable that she writes her music looking for number ones. Every song of hers is empty melodic-wise; what I mean is that she relies on super straighforward & super catchy melodies. There's absolutely no creativity in her music. And providing examples like E.T. , Dark Horse or Roar show people here have very basic knowledge about music.

I really like Katy though, and no one can deny her ability to create monster hits. And believe me, it's not such an easy task as it may seem.

That 1 song and the album title was enough for half of her fan base to turn away from her. Even till today, so many people even on this forum admit that they jumped ship because of BTW.

If she wanted, she could've created another Bad Romance or Poker Face....to keep the momentum of her previous success going but she didn't.

Who releases a song like "Judas" on Easter? Look at Marry the Night or TEOG or YOU & I! They were nothing like anything on TF or TFM!

All the singles she released from BTW were as different as chalk & cheese from TF & TFM!

That's called taking risks and not being "basic".

The lyric video of Uncle also shows two gay women. Katy is really the only mainstream female with balls to support an actual cause.

There's even a lot going on in the Roar production. It uses elements of power pop, glam rock, arena rock and alternative pop.

If it were as important as you pretend it is, then artists making much superior music to any of our faves would be in your signature right now.
