It sounds dramatic, but it genuinely isn't.
He and my mother separated, he moved across the country. He was of course in my life in a large way (and still is in adulthood), but I told him that because there wasn't a strong masculine role model in my house for about 5 or 6 years, I was sort of turned into a woman.
Not a feminine woman, but just a woman.
