I truly think nothing will smash from the ARTPOP era and it has nothing to do with the music tbh.

Did Applause really ruin the chances of the era though??? Looking back now, we blamed the song for an underperforming album.

OMG remember when everyone (not just on ATRL, but on Twitter, GGD, tumblr too) was POSITIVE she would finally tweet on her birthday (in retrospect idk why we all assumed we'd get an announcement on her birthday?? it just seemed so obvious at the time ), and then we all had meltdowns when she didn't even say "thanks for the birthday wishes" till a few days later

And then after that we found out her grandfather passed away the same weekend and we all felt like ****

Applause is a bop but not the kind of song that sells an album. A song with more substance would have made for a better lead (especially against Roar), like Brooklyn Gods for example

My favorite thing was how she didn't say Merry Xmas or anything because that was right after that whole Emma thing and then lied and was like "I thought my tweet went through" she ****ing hated us
