No, it happened when I was 19 and I just started to gain a huge interest in music. It sort of happened. All of my music just became older. It was natural.
Suddenly, I woke up and I thought... I'm NOT going to listen to Thom Yorke's ****ing whiny voice anymore. And then I downloaded Talking Heads and Kraftwerk and **** then just got real. Still my favorite bands after all of my own discoveries.
I guess sites like AllMusic and 4chan had something to do with it, but I definitely left Pitchfork as soon as I heard that older music was more my likings. Also, p4k is a huge Radiohead stan. Like gtfo.
I liked them when I was 16... that's also the right age to listen to indie stuff like this.
try getting into the glam rock. Though, Bowie and Queen are known for making good rock/glam music they did "experiment" with other sounds 
But because they're all by old establishment-certified white men which 99% of "taste high horse" snobs like you like, making it more of a subgenre of hipsterism rather than anything approaching individualism
