Thank everything I was at work getting money and working out. Cause that title just made me livid. And some of the posts . Like have they heard of how eurocentric names get more call backs, the lighter the skin the lighter the sentence etc......

I think these people don't understand just because you have white privilege doesn't erase your struggles.It doesn't mean you got to your position solely because of your skin tone or erases the hard work you put in.

It means you are more privileged in one area than a POC, just like how a white gay will have more visibility and representation in the media than gays of color . And the nerve for some of them to personally act so smart and act like i'm such a fool on race discussions I can't...

I mean this forum should just stick to music but then again it can't even do that right. I mean many know nothing on music history pre 1998. And also doesn't understand what it takes to be an ACTUAL legend or an icon, like if you use the word so much it loses it's meaning

I simply do not agree that she symbolizes or represents any group of people, style of music, period of time, area, etc. She does not have a musical style or image that can easily recognized as HERs. She's not really an icon.

She is very representative of the younger generation and reggae-infused songs by female artists usually draw comparison to rihanna. I also think her fashion is extremely impactful on girls in her demographic 15-26. I do see what you're saying and thought the ICON award was a bit too early but there have been bigger award show flubs... So all hail Icon.

I don't know anything about female Island artists, but the greatest icon of Reggae overall is Bob Marley, no?

Rihanna said herself that she is basically regurgitating Tupac and Aaliyah's fashion styles. That's their icon really.

She's gone to White people).

I know I already mentioned this but bey posted that pic of her on Instagram and said RIP and this girl in my class thought she was a destiny child member who had just died. Nobody corrected her or knew who she was talking about.

Also white people think Rihanna music > Beyoncé's. There's a reason her pop radio peaks are so low.
