Q4 for obvious reasons...higher sales during two big holidays and song wise you get to start out the year close to the top. I.e. Dark horse will most likely be the #1 female song because it's just now peaking after starting top 10 in january and having success which all of it will be captured in one year. If released at the end of Nov/Dec all sales will go on one year and year end charts can fare better. YOu can also use q1, q2 and q3 to keep the album steady
Q2 is great if you want to have more time to sell an album and fare better on the year end charts.
Think Mariah's Emancipation of Mimi. YOU ARE IN A PERIOD OF LULL where the year end artists are dying down in their moment so you offer something fresh and new.
For instance, the billboard hot 100 will probably remain stagnant in the top 10 because all of the older songs are peaking and not many new songs are there to take its place. PERFECT TIME to release a smash spring single that can play strong in summer too. I.E. starships. You get to experience a great sales ride IF you have back to back smashes on deck. You also get to have enough time and impact for VMAs, AMAs, BBMAs and Grammys.
It's one of the best times to release if you have back to back smashes on deck
Q3 is aight. summer smashes make it tolerable. It's just splits up things. It's hard to have enough impact for VMAs, it keeps things fresh enough for the AMAs but it's right before the Grammy cutoff and it's just an okay time. Once in awhile you get a Teenage dream situation where it works out well enough to have your third single promoted during the thanksgiving and xmas holidays because singles 1 and 2 are summer and early fall. More often than not it doesn't play that well.
Q1...not worth it but you can remain in the top 10 for awhile based on little competition of releases like Frozen and Beyonce and you can have potential multiple weeks at #1. people are hitting #1 in the Q1 when they would never be able to in more competitive quarters.
