Their Japanese fanclub was/is pretty sizeable and the fact they managed to cross-over to the general "casual listener" public suggests to me that they'd have a better chance at surviving over there even with only 3 remaining members. Hara is like super popular over there on her own.
WG meanwhile are basically dead in the water at this point and imo should stay that way. There are literally zero benefits to JYP investing time/money in trying to revive what is essentially an ancient group at this point when they should be (and are) focussing on developing newer groups to replace them. I love Wonder Girls but at this point the last thing I want is a comeback from them because I don't think it could live up to the standards they set for themselves before everything turned to ****.

It does apply. The majority of their sales were composed of purchases from casual listeners, so much so that whenever they couldn't promote to the masses that their sales complete tanked. See the drop in sales by 85% (despite numerous fan signings for the later release once UMJ saw how badly it was doing) between their 2011 album and there 2012 album whereas SNSD had a drop of 75% despite having bigger sales to begin with which would increase the % decrease.
Furthermore, SNSD's Japanese tours have always been unusually small. They could have done a sold out dome tour from late 2011 till early 2013 but nothing. KARA's tours are actually fairly unimpressive, even in Japan. The only really impressive feat they have had was selling out the Tokyo Dome. Even their Satima Arena concerts (in arena mode) didn't have the upper tier open. TVXQ>Big Bang>SNSD(despite capable of bigger tours)>SHINee > 2PM > KARA for touring in Japan.
And yes, that would be a concern of mine too for another WG comeback. However, their music generally delivers so where is the harm?

I'm surprised The Boys didn't chart in 2011 (sold 20,000 in the US which was - more than likely - in the first of week of release while they were massive throughout Asia back then too.
