They played this on one of our local Urban AC stations when I got in the car last night, and it was nice to here it on the radio. I actually love this song, regardless of the COMPLETE floppage (which I did not expect).
However, I think MC is stuck. As a fan, I've noticed that throughout her career she sometimes chooses to be very formulaic, only following trends that work for her until they're run into the ground. Throughout the 90s she was the ballad queen, so we have many amazing ballads from her and that worked for that time. Her last major success was with EOM and WBT, so she keeps trying to retrace it.
There are glimmers of hope with her. Both #B and TAOLG were stylistically and artistically steps forward for her IMO, regardless of their success. And it's VERY clear that she still wants to be successful, as she should. I just hope that she embraces and finds her strength in her more updated sound, and really presses delete on the MiMi. That time period (2005 -2009) added some nice material to her catalogue, but it's time to move forward
