Diamonds is the only huge hit, I've noticed, that guys are kind of dodgy about; some of them just don't feel it & think the hook is annoying. I see why Uncle did poorly. I love it in the context of the album, but on its own when I hear it on radio, I kind of tune it out. With a ballad like All of Me, it perks my interest on radio and gets me to turn the radio up.
Test a song by playing it with friends. If they sing along with it or tell you to turn it up without you provoking them to do so, you have a hit!
You have to test it with multiple people though, not just one you know will like the song before you press play.
I honestly think Unconditionally was just something to hold the era through the holidays, because launching Dark Horse around Christmas wouldn't have worked.
