She releases fun poppy summer hits but when she tries to get serious, she achieves little success compared to her other fun singles.

Firework disagrees. Funny how you are just generalizing Katy's songs into a "fun poppy summer" type.

Unlikely, for two main reasons: 1. I think Katy will give on on Pop a long time before 20 years into her career. I give it another album or 2 before she gets bored and moves into a less relevant genre. 2. Very, very, very few people are still relevant (musically) 20 years into their career. It's unlikely that any musician, no matter how big they are right now, will still be relevant 20 years into it.

You can voice your opinion without rolling your eyes, little diva.
In my opinion TOTGA only charted high because of the hype she had during her #1 streak.
It wasn't a bad song but it is already forgotten.
It will be hard for her to stay on top once her voice and look mature

A throwback artist, undeniably. Tribute acts though... No.

While I doubt Katy will want to continue releasing pop music and stay in the limelight (halting her chances at a longer career), the support she receives from Adult and Hot AC radio will work in her favour when it comes to longevity. A large part of her demographic is adults, as much as this site likes to deny, and I think utilising that will ensure a lengthy career.

She doesn't have to mature. If Katy thinks acoustic is the way to go, it's probably not looking bright for her.
Alanis had one of the most successful albums in history, but she's barely relevant in this generation.
In comparison Madonna had 0 hit ballads/serious songs that became hits since 1998. ABBA barely had any serious songs and their music is up there with MJ in terms of longevity.
It's not always about showcasing vocal talent. Like I said it depends on the material if it's up to date with the future generations and is good, and it depends on her career choices.

Katy adapted from the OOTB era to the TD era to go with a more "in" sound (pop-rock was on the way out) and it worked for her. She'll have no problems doing it again in order to keep her successful career. She has a very versatile voice.

"Don't Tell Me" was a hit in 2001, and Madonna is way more talented, acclaimed, diverse and much greedier than Katy will ever be. And she didn't have to depend on one producer/songwriter for majority of her biggest hits.
Dr. Luke will eventually get played out, and so will Katy and her bubblegum, "fun" pop songs, and she will eventually have to mature because no one will want to hear a 50-something year old woman singing stuff like "Roar" or "Last Friday Night."
So, for right now, my answer says no.

Yes, she is after all the new Madonna. Not persona-wise, but career wise. She plays the game the same way Madonna did, starting at the same time as a bigger female artist who everyone expects to become the legend. Althought Gaga and Cyndi are more talented than Katy and Madonna, the formers have more business brains and get bigger per album release. No one expected Madonna to last as long as she did, and people still underestimate Katy. She's got the general public and radio on her side. We've already had a boundary pushing, eccentric, known for reinventing her image queen that is Madonna. People have moved on from that, and that's why Gaga can't last. There has to be different persona's, like Katy. This is the time of the fun, relatable and down to earth girl to shine and have longetivity.

No one will be interested in paying tribute to generic Dr. Luke tracks 20 years into the future so nah.

Yeah right, maybe most of her songs but she has FIREWORK tho, and it's not Dr.Luke... and it's already a classic recurrent song now.

I think Katy will move on from pop music into more of an acoustic/rock genre so she probably won't still achieve the same level of success, but she'll be remembered. Not many artists are still relevant 20 years later anyway. We will have to wait and see though.
