A- They did not give her control
Applause was a song she didn't wanna release in the first place.
She wanted Venus as a second single.
They scrapped her initial vision for the DWUW video when she obeyed them.
B- Katy's label gave Unconditionally a 3 months period. They spent a shitload of money to promote the song even though they wanted Birthday as the second single. The song flopped but they were totally okay with it as long as she released the single they wanted. It's a compromise. They're not gonna throw Katy out because Capitol is far from a huge label, Katy is their saving grace. Their only major act. The kind of music she wants to make is ballads, the second half of PRISM, the second single of PRISM.
