Instead of the old simple “Super Bass”-ish video that I originally wanted, I want the video to have this old, grainy film feel as if were shot 20-40 years ago. The video would show this guy, who’s just always down on his luck, especially with love, as Katy’s co-star. Katy plays a 50s/60s pin-up type character who is constantly appearing in the mans life. The man doesn’t even know who she is, but every time they meet, they have a good time. There would be scenes with them in a 70s roller rink disco, in an amusement park (Disneyland would be nice. A scene with Katy and the guy riding the teacups would be cute), and on a beach. The bridge would show the guy in his bedroom with his birthday cake in front of him and Katy posing and modeling for him in pin-up girl attire. Right when she says “it’s time to bring out the big, big, big, big, big, big balloons”, it cuts to the guy's living room, where Katy and a bunch of friends throw a surprise party for the guy. The video ends with Katy whispering “happy birthday” and blowing out the candles in the guy's bedroom.
What do y'all think?

Sounds great A pin-up/50 or 60s vibe would be so good. She totally pulls it off, as demonstrated by the OOTB era, and it'd fit with the song perfectly

This is what it should be:
1950's:
Katy will be playing a sort of awkward girl (think Kathy Beth Terry, grown up) who works at one of those diners that the waitresses ride around on roller skates. This guy will come in all the time with his girlfriend (also played by Katy, i.e. Avril Lavigne-Girlfriend, Taylor Swift- You Belong with Me) and she's like a total bitch to him. So every time this guy comes in it will go into a different fantasy of Awkward Katy and this guy dating ("Boy, WHEN you're with me). During the bridge, the guy will be throwing his birthday party at the diner and Awkward Katy will jump on the table and do some strippery moves, while his girlfriend and everyone else in the diner are disgusted. So when the final chorus breaks out, the guy pushes his girlfriend away and him and Katy run to his car, where they drive off into the distance, while the scene continues cutting into Katy and the rest of the waitresses doing roller skate choreo. Then after she whispers "Happy Birthday" at the end a bell will ring and the cook will yell "order up!' and Katy will wake up.

I really need to stop reading these Birthday MV ideas. They all sound great and I keep on thinking that, that might actually be the concept for the video.

I get LFN(TGIF) vibes so I want this to have a fun, goofy, campy video, like all the videos this era really haha. I totally called Birthday as 3rd single btw

If "Dark Horse" wasn't becoming as much of a monster as it was, it should've been released as the 4th single in like May/June, after this slayed the Spring.

I love this idea. This is what I pictured too. "Birthday" itself has an old school vibe. Going that route would be fitting, visually.

Later this month/beginning of April. Is "Dark Horse" still gaining on pop or has the fall started?

Sure...let's skip the light spring/summer songs and go straight into a song design to impact in a colder, darker time like fall/winter

I get Teenage Dream vibes from Birthday...just this euphoric fun thing that teens would want to look up to.
I get LFN vibes from the catchy novelty song This is how we do.
As LFN was captured in 80s, I always think This is how we do will have a 90s vibe with her just enjoying her friends and being another euphoric vibe.

I actually like this song more than "Dark Horse". It's one of the few songs I kept in my Itunes. This + "This Is How We Do"
