Ever since the rise of Protestantism, religion has started to slowly denigrate. When it was first put into play, Constantine instituted Christianity as a STATE religion, then the people wanted religious freedom so the US was formed. People were puritans. Sexuality evolved. Women and Blacks were repressed by scripture. They were later granted rights. Now the gay are struggling...but they will eventually win.

The way I see it, religion is just a placeholder for actual knowledge. A lot of those things were written as a way of understanding the world. As we come to understand the world better, the less use we have for religion.

its kind of hard to see it when you live in a red state. I have ads blasting at me that the next governor candidate is endorsed by religious affiliations. I even have co-workers telling me they wake up paralyzed and see demons and when I tell them its just sleep paralyzes they they try to convince me by telling me ghost stories from their childhoods

The internet is the only place I have met more than a handful of atheist

It can give a person solace, and that's great, religious folk also tend to be more optimistic about life compared to an atheist who is more likely to be a cynic.

Yeah, and that's fair enough. I have no problem with people believing in God, Allah, reincarnation or whatever else. If they want to pray, visit a mosque, synagogue etc. If that gives them strength to get through the day then good. However, when they start judging people just because their religion says so it's very annoying. Like, are people really that ignorant that they can't form their own opinions and just blindly follow the word of an ancient book?
