Glitter (both the movie and album) because the reviews were TERRIBLE. It wasn't because September 11 and anyone who remembers that era knows exactly why it flopped. Mariah can come up with as many excuses as she wants but she knows no one wanted.
And ironically she technically is to blame for it flopping. The movie was supposed to come out Labor Day Weekend originally but had to be delayed to the week after 9/11 cus of her breakdown hospitalization. at her saying no one wanted to go the movies after the tragedy. How was there a #1 box office movie then? I love Mariah but she never acknowledges her mistakes lol.
The terrorists first priority is to bomb Janet Jackson and her tour venues in Europe? I don't think so and the first date of the European tour was all the way in October in Sweden. Fine, but that was a ridiculous reason to cancel so many dates. It flopped cause it just wasn't a good film, and she knows that. She's says the only good thing was the soundtrack. Glitter has a million views on youtube btw so it is a sort of a cult classic (by her standards).
To be fair - nobody was thinking totally rational at that time so while of course nothing was going to happen to Janet and her concerts in Europe, the fear was instilled in her (and other artists too).
Glitter was a bigger flop than ARTPOP, and Glitter was 10 or 11 years into Mariah's career. There was a lot more going on with Mariah than just bad music. Two different scenarios.

You can look up the receipts that many movies released around 9/11 performed horribly. People were not trying to go out to the movies after a terrorist attack. The movie was also taken out of many theaters as I said.

She canceled the LA date which was on the same day as the incident and postponed til the 15th. Janet's excuses are WHACK.

Igloo is literally the exact same as Damita Jean except her singing voice doesn't require autotune to sound like the most vile eardrum-melting aural assault ever. Even Adele is a better arm dancer than Knee, so that argument doesn't work anymore. But yes, I agree, Britney and Kesha are on the same level of relevance at this point.
