I agree that the majority of Born This Way was a disaster, and lyrically ARTPOP could've been so much better. A lot of the music and melodies on ARTPOP sound good, but the thing is - it is hard to look into music that promotes itself as "art" and "pop" while the lyrics are crap.

Wasn't there supposed to be some sort of quality-assurance on this? Did no one tell Gaga her lyrics need to be rewritten? So much of the verses and bridges on ARTPOP make no ****ing sense (choruses on the other hand... don't need to make a lot of sense, they're the catchiest part of the song). The fans are here for this, but for regular people this must be getting old fast.

That's a faulty assumption right off the bat. The more generic the artist, the more the GP digs on average; if an album is great without being generic it will lose attention from the GP regardless.

TFM was brilliant AND to some extent generic; she was commercially appealing enough to be the biggest pop star on earth while at the same time making great music. This, I just want to come here and talk about Gaga without all the ****ing negativity. Is that too much to ask? I mean it's okay to not agree with some stuff that she does and it's okay not to like ARTPOP but do we really have to experience major meltdowns like this? We get enough it in the other Gaga related threads. It's just annoying

The disrespect some people give to The Fame/Monster... I mean, if Gaga's music wasn't any good back then - how did she become so famous? Her act and persona definitely had an impact but if the music was trash nobody would've given a **** about her.

Applause is 2x platinum and has over 100,000,000 views in youtube already. No other Gaga video got that amount of views in such a short time.

DWUW is platinum without a video and the audio video has over 25 million views.

So no the music is not the problem

No, it's honestly not. The GP really does see when she does stupid **** because it proliferates the media when it happens. What people DON'T notice is the music because they've been turned off by something earlier on in the era or in previous eras. DWUW is pretty universally liked, and it only performed moderately on the charts, for example. Applause and DWUW are damn good pop songs and radio recognized that and supported them hugely; the GP didn't buy them because something else turned them off.

Go back and have her release DWUW in mid-2010; it would have crushed any semblance of competition you could find. Release it today? Nope, people have been turned off by image problems and aren't as interested.

If it was all about the music, Top 40 and the Hot 100 would look very different.
