Obviously she wasn't 100% being herself, but at least she was true to her sound and vision even at the start of her career. You can't say that about lots of other pop girls. She was so self-aware it was refreshing to see someone like her. It's embarrassing that TF has more quality material compared to AP, an album that came out 5 years later which should've made her more aware of pop culture and... herself. And by the way, it's even more deluded to think ANY pop star can even be themselves during whatever phase of their careers. They're ALL products. Gaga was just a wonderful outcast. Lady Gaga is instead playing games and doing memes(!) So, she's not one of them. She's still an outcast.

The only fault of this era was Gaga herself taking her review scores seriously. No one was messing with her until she showed people that it extremely bothered her. If she kept on promoting and performing (i.e. be a pop star) Artpop would at the least be close to where Prism is at.

It does speak for her starpower that she can get that much sales from that alone but the "flop" description wasn't really a thing aside from stan wars until she showed people that she believed that after her huge depressed era.

Actually The Edge Of Glory was in fact when she had the teal hair, remember the X Factor performance? And I don't remember where she did this performance but she did the teal mermaid thing. Marry The Night gave us her worst looks that era, including that ugly mole

Maybe I'm confusing it because all of the performances of Marry The Night had her looking beautiful and she looked drop dead gorgeous in the music video and looked hideous in The Edge of Glory. Why didn't she use the blue wig for the music video? Seeing as it was so cheaply made I don't think it would have been too difficult - instead she had to clash with her own era.

The Edge Of Glory got completely snubbed, she was gonna do the whole teal hair/mermaid look and an amazing music video but she had "creative differences" (surprise, surprise) with the director and they split. The video ended up being directed by her and looking boring, and she looked kinda unflattering. Had the song been released smoothly as the second single, it would've definitely hit #1 and they would've had more time to plan the video. So sad, it's one of her best songs ever and I adore it.
