Speed skating is a historical sport of the Olympics. It's much more prestigious than slopestyle, half-pipe, snowboard cross and all that stuff (and I say this when my country won like half of their medals in these new sports).

Speed skating is prestigious, but a country that performs well in a variety of sports is much more impressive than a country winning medals only in one sport..
That's true. But to be fair to the Netherlands, they don't have many mountains there. They've optimised their performances and medal haul with what they have, I saw well done.
Looks like its going to be Russia/Norway competing for #1 in terms of gold medal count with it being decided tomorrow if Norway is able to get gold in the mens mass start. 3/4 is probably going to be U.S./Canada depending on how Bobsled/Hockey/Alpine skiing go with Germany as a potential spoiler but still sits behind U.S. and Canada in terms of silver medals.
I love that its such a tight contest! Overall medals will be Russia/US in number 1 with Norway in third place and Canada in fourth.
