Ever since a about a month ago, I noticed Lucario and Aegislash usually run special instead of physical. Probably because there is a less risk using a special attacker, no burns or contact moves.
Can anyone with competitive knowledge tell me why Shaymin-S has been banned for all 3 generations it's been out? I mean I'm guessing it's high speed/serene grace air slash? Cuz otherwise it's STAB is resisted by any steel type, it's bulk is mediocre IIRC and typing leaves it vulnerable to plenty of common attacking types including probably being OHKO'd by Mamo's Ice Shard and Talonflame/Pinsir's BB/QA. Just wondering if there's anything I'm overlooking since it seems like it was never even considered for OU as far as I can remember, which means it must be pretty damn OP

It is because of its attack Seed Flare. on Shaymin-S especially it is OP, with Serene Grace.

Unless you're really fast or have priority, you're probably going to flinch. It is already annoying on average-speed Togekiss so I can imagine... In addition, Seed Flare is a 120 BP move, with 2/3 chance to lower special defense by 2. Even if it doesn't have the best STAB it can wear down a Pokemon pretty easily with that.

I see, forgot all about that move. Yeah I guess it makes sense now, with an effectively 80% chance to halve a switch-in's special defense I guess it can easily bypass it's intended checks and counters with ease. Also forgot it got Earth Power to decimate Heatran and other things that resist it's STAB Well I hope they nerf Seed Flare to hell and back one day so I can use my beautiful Shaymin-S outside of Ubers
Welp, I only ever encounter physical ones because of Shadow Sneak, Swords Dance and Sacred Sword.
I guess I'm wrong if Smogon says that. I don't even understand why it's a Quiet nature considering I thought special Aegislash ran Autotomize.
Very confusion. Much strange.
People don't run Special Aegislash with Quiet. They run mixed. Which is a lot better.

It's stats are pretty high, + Serene Grace & that Speed + it has Air Slash.

Air Slash isn't the problem though, it's that way OP Seed Flare move. It sucks that one move can ban an amazing pokémon
Why not just ban the move on Shaymin-S instead?
Well I hope they nerf Seed Flare to hell and back one day so I can use my beautiful Shaymin-S outside of Ubers
