The way you frame the question is what allows us to "talk around the issue". You're not just questioning her lack of a #1. You're opening up a discussion about her relevance and appeal to the GP. So what's the best way for stans to prove that she's still wanted by the GP? Oh yea... album sales, touring receipts, etc. Ergo, a mess ensues.
And why should being one spot away from the top reflect badly on Bey's starpower and relevance? Maybe the #1 song is just more popular atm... Doesn't mean it's the only single that can be considered "successful". Can you not use all that deductive reasoning you've been talking about to deduce that if the song is #2 on Billboard, #1 in streaming on Spotify, and a successful meme, the GP is probably still interested in her music?

You cannot have a conversation about why someone has failed to achieve a certain position on a chart and not question their relevancy and or if other outside factors including: age, relationship status, lifestyle decisions may have played a role in as to why people may not be able to connect with said artist's music anymore. However, all of that is supposed to lead to a more informed decision and statement on the main subject and idea at hand. Who are you to say what is messy and what is actually genuine?

Janet in Feedback.
Her THIRD decade and this woman annihilated any offerings from Katy, Rihanna, Pink, and Christina, Nicki, and Kesha.
This woman danced like she was still in her 20s.
And then the song is a 10/10, a KNOCKOUT single for the late 00s.
Single cover is a 10/10

I'm sorry, you do realize that we're discussing #1 vs #2 right? The difference is minimal. Are you trying to say that everything after #1 is a flop that no one connects with? Cause if so, that's not genuine, that's plain messy.
If you need more evidence of how "well-intentioned" your thread was, just go look at the thread you posted before it and you tell me.

The "Rock Wit U" video was so cheap yet so awesome. Janet is truly a talent.

Well, technically we're discussing a single that was #2 for a very small amount of time and has currently dropped back down to number five as of this week. The difference between #1 and #2 may be minimal but there is still a difference. That's like saying that you're "half-pregnant" or that you "maybe" passed an exam. Either you're pregnant or you're not. Either you passed the exam or you did not.
And all of that still has nothing to do with long-term success or lasting-impact. Her album as a whole may have garnered attention and encouraged artists to seek alternative ways to release their music, but the singles have so far underperformed given the hype surrounding the project. That was the point of the thread.
You're beating a dead horse when you're clearly in the wrong.

Dark Horse.
I thought people were exaggerating for sure but god it's exactly what I expected just worse.
To take something so easy and just turn into a playpen version, its her thing but wow, so Disney.
She could never pull off true royalty anyway.

I've never understood how it's possible for a video to make a song's sales decrease.

Also the cat head dancers are kinda more captivating than Katy's whole career.

You say 08 as if she was releasing albums at the Rihanna's pace.
It was one single, platinum album that didn't give us a top 10 hit, when normally every single album since DC has spewed a top 5. But yall had yourself a little field day until BEYONCE came out and put her back into the top 5 single bracket, yet you STILL manage to downplay that success because of what?.. I'd LOVE to see Rih, Katy, Gaga, etc put out an album without a top 5 single, let alone 10 and give us platinum success, Artpop aint even touching 4's sales WITH one. As if Beyoncé has to have a #1 album, a #1 single, #1 tour for her to be "good enough".. So when will yall get it?
I'd say she's a well rounded success in multiple departments outside of singles. Not having a #1 single is not going to strip her chance away at being the highest paid black musician of all time.
