Katy clarified this a long time ago saying she saw the light and opted to go for the opposite.

Capitol was probably worried after the flopping of her buzz single Unconditionally. I mean that song had the best lyrical video in all of music, and the official video was artfully crafted. Despite all that plus the fact that it was a song that came after a huge first single, it really did not do anything. The viewership of that video was just way below a standard Katy video (which should be at least 200M).

Not sure whose idea it was to make DH camp, but I figured it may be Capitol's in order to reboot the era and put Katy back on track. Just my opinion.

While everybody was rooting for a more serious Katy, people are forgetting she's also a brand, and Capitol's biggest brand at the moment.

Y'all are so out to get her, like chill the **** down. The video isn't meant to be some serious endeavor into philosophical and sexy territory, it's meant to be light and fun, cute and hysterical. It's rare to find an artist who doesn't try too hard to be "deep" and instead just has fun!!! Sure the storyline is cheesy and some visuals are tacky, but that's the goddamn point! Do you all just completely overlook the BEAUTIFUL colour scheme? Like, when's the last time you saw a music video so rich in colour? The choreography - YES EVEN THE LEAN - was just right for this song and didn't need to be some complex routine.

Also for y'all saying "Only Katy fans like this!" Seriously, shut the **** up. Not only am I not a Katy Perry fan, but I doubt the majority of the GP would consider themselves Katy fans, rather just average listeners and viewers who buy stuff that they like and don't buy stuff they don't like. It's a beautiful lighthearted video and that's that. Haters will remain pressed but seriously, it's so much easier to appreciate than to denegrate.

Haha, I LOVED IT. I think it's awesome that she doesn't take herself too seriously. It's part of her charm and a reason why she's so successful and loved by the general public.
