I think it was before she took a residency in Vegas where she didn't have to pay the astronomical income taxes in Quebec and made far more money.

It shows a great distaste of anything Canada, a sentiment shared by most Quebecers. She didn't want to be seen as fraternizing with the enemy, so to speak. It was a huge scandal here.
