Might also have sth to do with those being the Most tourist-crowded places? Anyway, I just order everything in French whenever I'm in Strassbourg or other French places just to avoid weird reactions

Totally. Especially in regions like Anjou that were their own countries.
It's hilarious to think that I've been living in NY my whole life, have travelled to a lot of different places & countries, and yet I haven't actually went anywhere outside of the NYC/LI Metropolitan area. I can't be bothered to go to upstate NY.
