It's not as if Where Have You Been as a lead single wouldn't have outdone all her previous lead singles by a decent margin. So I don't get your point. She FOUGHT for the songs to be hers as far as I see it, and made them Pop Staples.
That's not what I'm saying though.
Point is, Rihanna had nothing to do with the acclaim of those songs. Anyone could have sung over those tracks and pretty much got acclaim for it. Maybe the sales wouldn't have been as big but lets not re-enforce stereotypes about most pop stans when it comes to sales.
If Gaga doesn't recover after ARTPOP, she won't be remembered for anything other than a flash-in-the-pan. I haven't seen a backlash like this for a music star in awhile.
True. Right now she's just viewed as that singer who dresses weird and wore a dress made out of meat.

You think Leona would've got a Grammy for the song? You think the video for the song would've been the same and been widely accepted ?
You think Britney in 2007 would've made Umbrella what it was when even DSTM was more popular than all of Blackouts singles?
Mary...
She had everything to do with why those songs were what they became.

I would have to ask those who lived during that era if Cyndi's decline was as drastic as this one here, as far the media and people laughing at her for failing. Social media plays a part, but I still wonder how kind '80s media was to Cyndi or did she just take a decline without the backlash.
There's one tour that grossed over $700,000,000 in history (not adjusted for inflation) and that's U2.
There's over 60 movies that have done that. Movies bring in more than music, easy as that.
Actors don't see most of that 1B+ grosses (unless you're Robert Downey Jr. of course) on the other hand a successful tour by any big artist can get them 40-50% of the total gross. There's no comparison. Also musicians have bigger brands than actors.

Somebody already posted Cyndi's peaks after her first album and they were all tragic.
I can't remember an artist who has had this kind of backlash during a decline except milli vanilli. I wanna say Mariah is the next closest that comes to mind.
she is already known by more people than fossyl, julianne morre, amy adams, cate blanchette and all the other unknown actresses you stan for combined
Radio fodder is all she is. She's obviously lacking something if she has to cling to a man who tried to kill he in order to develop an "edgy" personality to sell her albums since doing the opposite didn't sell Rated R. She's cheap.
